The Boise Chamber Music Series Presents The Alexander String Quartet
Friday, February 28, 2028 7:30 pm
Location: Morrison Center Recital Hall (C200)
The Alexander String Quartet, among the world’s premier ensembles, has made its home base in San Francisco since 1989, a vital artistic presence in the Bay Area community and beyond. Admired widely for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart, Bartók, and Shostakovich, the quartet’s recordings have won international critical acclaim. Founded in New York City in 1981, the ensemble quickly captured attention, initially by winning the Concert Artists Guild Competition in 1982 leading to their critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall Debut that spring. They subsequently became the first American quartet to win the London (now Wigmore) International String Quartet Competition in 1985. This is their 44th and final celebratory season, with concerts in the Northwest and Northeast US as well as Europe.
Their final concert for Boise includes Tarik O’Regan’s Gradual, a work commissioned by the Boise Chamber Music Society in 2016, in its 2022 revised version. A refreshing, alternatingly contemplative and rambunctious single-movement piece “Gradual” reflects O’Regan’s impressions of Southwest Idaho as he traveled the mountains and rivers with hosts from the BCMS Board. The program opens with Haydn’s joyously perky Quartet Op. 77/1 in G and finishes with the sublime architecture of Beethoven’s Op. 74, “The Harp.”
For single tickets ($35) to this concert, please contact Jeanne Belfy, jbelfy@boisestate.edu as soon as possible.
Convenient hourly public parking for non-Boise State parking permit holders attending Music Department events is available just south of the Morrison Center in the Brady Street Garage for $3.25 per hour. Cash and credit/debit cards are accepted at the kiosk.
